DIY Medusa Headpiece | Halloween 2021

Updated: Dec 2, 2021

It's Halloween, AGAIN! Where has the time gone? Well, today I am going to be teaching you how to make a Medusa Headpiece using only $20 worth of supplies.

However, before we start, I just have to ask... why does it seem like everyone I follow on social media decided also to be Medusa for Halloween? As far as I know, there was no viral show or movie this year with medusa so why is everyone trying to be her for Halloween.

Medusa along with Persephone are my favorite characters from Greek mythology, two strong women. One is the textbook definition of a sweet soft girl with a dark side and the other is a scorned woman.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let's gather the supplies we will need:

- Zip Ties

- A Thick Band Headband

- Toy Rubber Snakes

- Gold Spray Paint

- Pair of Scissors

- Glue Gun & Hot Glue Gun Sticks

I was able to find all my supplies at my local Walmart. The rubber snakes only cost $1 each, the zip ties were $5 for 50, the spray paint was $4 and the thick band headband was $2. I already had the hot glue gun with hot glue gun sticks and a pair of scissors in my crafting supplies at home.

To start, you are going to tie all your zip ties onto the headband nice and snug, with the locks all facing the same direction. Depending on how far down you want the spikes to go on your headpiece, I chose to stop just about my ears, keep tieing until you are satisfied.

Then we are going to trim each of the ziplines spikes at various lengths creating that halo-like effect. The end result should look something like the picture below.

The last step before we spray paint our headpiece is to glue the rubber snakes onto the spikes. It is easy to trim the snakes to the length of your liking, layout the snakes onto the headband, and glue directly onto each of the individual zip-ties.

Next, we are just going to spray paint each side of the headpiece starting with the front, applying even coats until we like the paint coverage and see no more black. Here is what my headpiece looked like after two heavy coats of spray paint on each side.

You're done! Enjoy your quick and easy headpiece.
