My 2019 Music Wrap Ups

Updated: Dec 2, 2021

Music. A universal language that we all understand. Music helps avoid that void, can explain all the emotions you're feeling, and at the same time change your life.

The Oxford Learners Dictionary defines the word Music as a noun meaning sounds that are arranged in a way that is pleasant or exciting to listen to. People sing music or play it on instruments.

There are an estimated 24,000 new songs being released each day! That is 8.76 million NEW tracks released each year. It is virtually impossible to listen to all these in one lifetime. Thus, my list will include music that was released prior to the month however it was what I was rocking out to at that time.

January

December 2018 released the Netflix concert documentary on Taylor Swift’s Reputation tour. I’ve been a fan since ‘Picture to Burn’ came out on her debut album, I may have only been four years old, but baby Wren was ready to slash some country boy folk’s tires.

I honestly did not listen to this album when it came out, it did not interest me however after watching the documentary, you best believe I had it blasting 24/7. My favorites include the king of my heart, don’t blame me, this is why we can’t have nice things and getaway car, however, the whole album is just amazing.

Ed Sheeran is a legend, his music is legendary, I’ve been a fan since ‘The A Team’, for the past two years, I’ve been playing his music non-stop but January 2019 was a peak.

Nonstop ‘Dive’, ‘One, ‘I’m a Mess’, ‘Tenerife Sea’, ‘I See Fire’ and ‘ShirtSleeves’ were the top of the list. However, I can say every album was on repeat non-stop.

Back in May 2017, I listened to ‘Hamilton: The Musical for the first time ever, the night before my U.S History State Standardized Exam for help, since then I’ve been hooked. If there is one thing you can catch me listening to any day of the week no matter what mood I am in, it is Hamilton.

February

Besides rocking to January’s music all year long of 2019, I also had these songs on repeat.

Nathan Sykes ‘Over and Over Again’, ‘Money’, ‘Good Things Come To Those Who Wait’, and ‘Famous’ was on no stop.

After rewatching Snow White and The Huntsmen, I became obsessed with Halsey’s ‘Castle”.

Charlie Puth, a musical genius, after seeing him open for Shawn Mendes on the Illuminate Tour back in July 2018, I had been playing ‘Dangerously’ and ‘Suffer’ non-stop.

March

March brought the nostalgia of Shawn Mendes Handwritten album, I was singing non-stop.

Two songs by Drake were my anthems for this month, ‘Child’s Play’ and ‘God’s Plan’.

One Direction, the impunity of my pre-teen years, oh was I a Harry girl. I had non-stop 1D songs playing that you would think I was transported to 2012 being a fangirl again.

April

Micheal Jackson is an icon, and his song ‘Man in the Mirror’ was my April anthem.

I’m from the city of the 915, so listening to Khalid is a must, all April long, I had his freshman album on repeat. ‘Saved’, ‘Angels’, and ‘Coaster’ were my go-to.

May

The man, the myth, the absolute legend Mr. Kid Cudi. May was dedicated to me listening to all his music, where Rose Golden was my first favorite but didn’t last long when ‘Mr. Rager’ came on. My favorite was always changing but every piece was truly a masterpiece.

June

A big part of my June was discovering who is now one of my favorite bands, Cub Sport. A small indie Australian band, I found after the Dolan Twins directed and produced a music video for one of their songs. Their covers of Kayne West ‘Ultralight Beam’ and Billie Eilish ‘When The Party’s Over’ got me falling in love fast. Then their originals such as ‘Come On, Mess Me Up’, ‘Party Pill’, and ‘Give It To Me’ captured my heart forever. The band itself are total sweethearts, and one day I hope to be able to meet them.

Kelly Clarkson has been in my life since I was a baby, I grew up listening to ‘People Like Us’, ‘Stronger’, and ‘Mr. Know It All’ were my anthems. In June, her ‘Piece by Piece Idol Version’ was on nonstop making me emotional.

Harry Styles is a treasure from his fashion to his sass to his music, I had his solo album on repeat, ‘Sweet Creature’ had my heartbreaking, ‘Kiwi’ and ‘Woman’ made me want to be that boss ass bitch! Thanks, Harry for the confidence.

July

Alessia Cara is a gorgeous Canadian angel who in July music had my heart. Her songs ‘Growing Pains’, ‘Nintendo Game’ and ‘Girl Next Door’ were my top favorites.

Billie Eilish is my age, yet conquering the world. Her music has such a new gratifying feel to it, and her album made me feel like a whole new person.

James TW cover of ‘Torn’ was my heartbreak piece of the summer.

August

King of weird rap songs that make you feel something, Post Malone’s ‘Congratulations’ made me get off my butt and work.

Lizzo, our queen of body positivity and confidence. ‘Truth Hurts’, ‘Cause I love You’, and ‘Good as Hell’ were getting me to move my behind.

Taylor Swift dropped her album Lover and I went crazy. The true emotion of being in love was heard on the album, how growth and separation makes you stronger and how much I love her music was confirmed. Tracks like ‘The Man’, ‘Archer’ and ‘AfterGlow’ help me build my self-confidence. ‘Death By A Thousand Cuts’ was my favorite however on the whole album.

September

Bohemian Rhapsody, a song that to this day, I don’t understand how it was made, although there was a whole movie on it. What I do know is how much that song can make anyone bust out a rhyme.

gif

My emotions were all over the place when The Weeknd’s ‘Call Out My Name’ came into my life.

October

One of my all-time favorite songs of all time is The Scientist by Coldplay, although one of my favorite versions of it would have to be the Glee take. Remember Glee? Every time that song comes on, I become a mess being as how much I love the song.

gif

Kacey Musgraves blew up this year especially her ‘Space Cowboy’ track and naturally, I fell into the bandwagon, just very very late.

November

I honestly don’t know how it happened or where I even got this track on my radar but from the 2018 animated movie ‘The Grinch’ came my ultimate song at the end of the year, one I can boogie and get down to no matter what time of day it is, That song is ‘The Grinch Remix’ by Chance the Rapper.

gif

Frozen II came out and 12 year old me was thriving. With the new film came new music that I had on repeat, my favorite, however, being ‘Into the Unknown’.

December

Fine Line, Harry Styles's sophomore solo album, an album that left us all a wreck. ‘Watermelon Sugar’, ‘Adore You’, and ‘Lights Up’ could never have prepared me for the true masterpiece that is Fine Line. Tears were shed, eyes were watery and hearts were broken, all while Harry laughed at us.

gif

Selena Gomez released her first song in years, an emotional piece about finding herself and learning to love yourself. A song that can always break your heart and remind you that only you can put it back together. A true musical masterpiece.
